THE AUXILIARIST FIRST QUARTER 2025

AVAILABLE ONLINE NOW!

The First Quarter Edition of The Auxiliarist for 2025 is available online now!

The A-Directorate Publications Team is excited to bring you the newest issue of The Auxiliarist! This quarter’s theme is making a difference. We have the power and ability to make a difference for the Coast Guard and the public and this issue showcases how profound that impact can be!

Enjoy this Quarter’s issue now available on the U.S. Coast Guard DVIDS! Are you wondering what DVIDS is? DVIDS, or the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service, is a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) system that provides access to imagery and video from military operations worldwide. The U.S. Coast Guard is very much a part of this program and is also featured on DVIDS, with content including images and videos of Coast Guard missions and personnel.

Essentially, DVIDS is the platform where the public, including media organizations, can access visual information from various military branches, including the Coast Guard, involved in operations. The Coast Guard uses DVIDS to share content related to their missions, which include maritime safety, security, and stewardship.

Why is this important? This is Huge because for the very first time the Coast Guard Auxiliary has been granted access to this program and now has its very own page. This is Awesome for Team Auxiliary!

Help Strengthen Our Instructional Excellence

2025 Instructor Workshop

After a recent review of national statistics, we noted that approximately half of our instructors have not yet reviewed the 2025 Instructor Workshop or submitted the corresponding Self-Attestation Form. While this workshop remains optional—a status we in the Public Education Directorate actively championed—our shared commitment to instructional excellence inspires us to aim higher. We hope our instructors see value in continuous professional development and choose to participate voluntarily.

We encourage you to take 30 minutes to review the 2025 Instructor Workshop (PDF available at https://wow.uscgaux.info/content.php?unit=E-DEPT&category=e-dir-workshops) and submit the Self-Attestation Form to your Information Services Officer for entry into AUXDATA II.

Although created by the Public Education Directorate, the workshop is designed for all instructors, whether your focus is public education or member training. The insights shared can sharpen your instructional effectiveness, help you stay aligned with evolving expectations, and potentially spark new ways to contribute your talents to both the recreational boating public and your fellow Auxiliarists.

If you’ve already completed the workshop and your completion is recorded in AUXDATA II, we’d love to hear your feedback. Please share constructive comments directly with us at pe.feedback@cgauxnet.us.

Let’s continue to uphold the high standards of Auxiliary instruction. Thank you for your commitment to excellence.

Termination of Auxiliary Promotion of America’s Waterway Watch (AWW)

Program Visitors and Vessel Examiners:

Based on a mutual decision of US Coast Guard and US Coast Guard Auxiliary leaders, effective immediately the Auxiliary is no longer promoting America’s Waterway Watch (AWW). The AWW program has been replaced by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) “See Something, Say Something” (SSSS) program. The Auxiliary is checking to see if any materials are available to support the SSSS program and we will advise you when we know more about our ability to support this program.

Program Visitors (PV) and Vessel Examiners (VE) should take the following action with regard to AWW materials:

1. Do not distribute any AWW materials to the boating public and our partners.

2. Remove from display any AWW materials.

3. Destroy all local stocks of AWW materials. Trash is acceptable for destruction, no extraordinary methods are needed.

4. No orders for AWW materials will be fulfilled and all ANSC inventory will also be destroyed.

If you have additional questions about this message, contact your PV staff officer (FSO, SO, DSO) or the DVC-VP, Neil Slawson at neil.c.slawson@cgauxnet.us.

Thank you for your continued support and for keeping RBS Job 1!
