ALAUX 015/26 Subj: RECOGNITION OF PAST COMMODORES AND DEDICATION OF MEMORIAL MONUMENT AT TRACEN CAPE MAY
1. The U.S. Coast Guard proudly recognizes and celebrates the extraordinary service and leadership of all past Commodores who have crossed the bar. These distinguished Auxiliarists voluntarily sacrificed significant portions of their lives in support of the Coast Guard and its missions, shepherding the Auxiliary through its evolution into the world’s most prominent volunteer maritime organization.
2. In honor of these leaders, a memorial monument has been installed at the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center Cape May. Under the aegis of the National Association of Commodores, this monument stands as a lasting tribute to those who have shaped the legacy and mission of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. It is the first national Coast Guard Auxiliary memorial dedicated to deceased Commodores, commemorating their time, talents, professionalism, and devotion to duty.
3. The monument, prominently located at Cape May, features the engraved names of all past National Commodores who have passed over the bar, as well as all Commodores who have passed away from 2005 to the present. Its placement ensures high visibility for both Auxiliary and Active Duty personnel, serving as a lasting tribute to those who have attained the highest levels of leadership within the Auxiliary.
4. A dedication ceremony for the memorial monument will be held at USCG Training Center Cape May on 13 May 2026. All Auxiliary members, Coast Guard personnel, and guests are invited to join in honoring the legacy of our past Commodores. Those wishing to attend should RSVP by 01May at: https://forms.osi.apps.mil/r/CEjRKxDQUf.
5. The Auxiliary extends sincere appreciation to all who contributed to the realization of this monument and to the ongoing stewardship of our history and traditions.
6. Internet release is authorized.
Sincerely,
Brent R. Schmadeke
Captain, U.S. Coast Guard
Chief, Office of Auxiliary and Boating Safety (CG-BSX)
