Passing of Commodore Kathleen Goodwin
| Shipmates, It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Commodore Kathleen Goodwin, former Commodore of CGD-Northwest. Commodore Goodwin dedicated 29 years of steady, disciplined service to the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary and to the communities we are sworn to protect. Her leadership reflected the core principles upon which our service stands: Honor, Respect, and Devotion to Duty. Commodore Goodwin was widely known for her unwavering passion for boating safety and her determined commitment to ensuring no lives were lost on our local waterways. She tirelessly promoted Safe Boating Week, secured community and media engagement, staffed public events, supported vessel examinations and program visits, coordinated safety for major on-water events, and ensured life jackets were available to the public. Whether on patrol, at a community booth, or mentoring others in mission execution, she brought energy, visibility, and purpose to every effort. She was a familiar and trusted presence on the water and remained equally committed to serving through her church and local charitable organizations. Throughout her tenure, she strengthened this District through mentorship, strategic foresight, and an unwavering commitment to readiness. Those who served alongside her knew a leader who upheld standards without compromise, expected excellence, and believed deeply in the Auxiliary’s role as the uniformed volunteer component of the United States Coast Guard. In maritime tradition, we acknowledge that she has crossed the bar. We honor her watch, now secured, and reaffirm our commitment to carry forward the work to which she devoted so much of her life. Commodore Goodwin, may you have fair winds and following seas. |
